Scaling of population resilience with dispersal length and habitat size

Abstract Environmental fluctuations can create population-depleted areas and even extinct for the population. This effect is more severe in presence of Allee (decreasing growth rate at low population densities). Dispersal inside habitat provides a rescue on areas, enhancing resilience to environmental fluctuations. Habitat reduction decreases effectiveness dispersal mechanism. We report here how when length or size are reduced. The characterized by decrease extinction threshold shown scale with ratio between synchrony, i.e. it connection non-environmentally-correlated regions that also fluctuations, similar smaller than characteristic distances. power laws these scaling behaviors here. Alternative functions spatial scales synchrony found fit simulations worse. These results support as critical induced reduction.
